KUCHING: The Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth wing is backing its deputy chief Lukanisman Awang Sauni to defend his Sibuti parliamentary seat in the upcoming general election.

PBB Youth chief Miro Simuh said the wing is giving full support to the first-term MP as one of Gabungan Parti Sarawak’s (GPS) young candidates.

“We will give our full support for Sibuti MP Lukanisman Awang Sauni to be retained as a candidate (in the parliamentary constituency) again,” he told a press conference today (July 16).

Earlier, he chaired a PBB Youth wing meeting at the party’s headquarters here. Also present was Lukanisman, deputy youth chief Allan Siden Gramong, Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine and Tanjung Datu assemblyman Azizul Annuar Adenan.

At the same time, Miro said the wing is ready to suggest names of possible candidates if presented with the opportunity by the party’s top leadership.

“As the backbone party for the GPS, we (PBB) will work together with the other component parties namely Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) for the upcoming GE15,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Serembu assemblyman said that there will be a retreat involving GPS component parties’ youth wing in preparation to face the GE15.

He said collaboration between the component parties is crucial as there are many challenges given the various issues in the country.

“We know that the opposition will harp on issues and rhetoric… so we need to plan on how best to refute and explain to the people on what is happening as well as the reasons behind it.

“As the backbone of the GPS government and Sarawak, we need a strong and powerful team to make our respective parties stronger and for the people to accept us,” he said.

Separately, when asked whether he would consider becoming a candidate to contest at the Puncak Borneo parliamentary seat, Miro said there are many candidates who are of calibre out.

“It is enough for me to be an assemblyman, there is no need to be greedy,” he said.
