KUCHING: The upcoming Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Triennial General Meeting (TGM) which will be held this weekend will see the spotlight being shone on the youths.
This came after the proposal to amend the party’s constitution in the same meeting to accommodate the setting up the new Wing for members aged 18 to 28 years old.
PBB vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom said the group will be participating in the TGM given that they will become party members.
“There will be a few (youth participants) who will be invited – maybe 26 of them – we hope to introduce and instill the culture of PBB. Hopefully, they will then share with the rest of the (youth) group.
“At this juncture, we will amend our party constitution to accommodate the new movement. We need to pass the amendment first, only then they can speak in the next convention,” he said.
He was speaking to reporters during a press conference at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) following a committee meeting.
On the TGM, Dr Rundi said it is for the party to continue its efforts to instill confidence in the people in terms of fighting for Sarawak.
“As the government of the day, we want to ensure political stability in the state, as well as prosperity and glory to Sarawak – this is our direction,” he said.
The Minister for Agriculture Modernisation and Regional Development said the convention too will showcase the vision of the government through the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS 2030).
“We must work hard so that Sarawak will be a developed state come 2030. We want to increase the household income while at the same time, reduce the level of poverty,” he said.
Meanwhile on the competition for posts in the party, Dr Rundi who is slated to succeed outgoing senior vice-president Datuk Amar Michael Manyin Jawong, said the limited contest for posts shows that the party is united.
“The party already has a grand vision that is accepted by the people, the party leaders as well as the grassroots. We are giving our undivided support for the PBB president to continue to lead the party.
“That means our job now is to sustain the stable government and ensure stability in the party so we can direct our energy into developing the state and its people,” he said.
