KUCHING: Former Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) MP, Datuk Willie Mongin has applied to join Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB).
The Federal Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities, who is currently of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) said his application to join the party was made a couple of months ago
“That is true. I have submitted my application to join PBB with the hope that they will accept my application,” he said at an event here today (June 20).
Willie said he did not join any party when the federal government changed (in early 2020), adding that he merely supported the government.
“I have not joined any party but I do not deny that I’m being parked to support the government and they have technically parked me under Bersatu. This is done so that I can make the numbers to support the government of the day,” he said.
The Puncak Borneo MP was among the eleven MPs from PKR who left the party during the Sheraton Move which triggered a change in government at the federal level.
Two other Sarawakian PKR MPs with him at the time were Selangau MP Baru Bian and Saratok MP Datuk Ali Biju. Baru is currently with Parti Sarawak Bersatu while Ali is with Bersatu, being a deputy minister in the federal government.
In April, Willie said he should be given a chance to defend his seat in the in the 15th General Election (GE15).
The first-term MP won the seat in the 14th General Election, defeating the PBB candidate for the seat, Genot Sinel. He too had contested in the 2016 Sarawak State Election for the Mambong seat, but was defeated by Datuk Jerip Susil.
During the Sarawak State Election last year, Willie was seen wearing a GPS shirt when accompanying Dr Jerip who was re-nominated to defend the seat.
