KUCHING: Sarawak is not deterred in claiming their dues in terms of petroleum reveneus.
The state aims to recover some proceeds that Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) has made from the oil extracted from state.
“What we want is to get back some of the huge profits from the oil that comes from our land within our boundaries,” said Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring assistant minister Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali.
“This is to develop our state further especially the basic infrastructure in the rural areas,” she told reporters when interviewed at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) yesterday.
Hasidah viewed that the five-per cent sales tax imposed by Sarawak on petroleum products early this year was well-received by Petronas.
She pointed out that negotiations are going well at the moment between the state and the national oil and gas company.
“We will wait and see. We already gave them the timespan, so we will cross the bridge when we get there.”
On the new renumeration proposal put forward by the state, she asserted that Sarawak seeks to request extra arrangements, commercially with Petronas.
“Because in the end, what we want is some of the financial success, profit and revenue to be returned to the state,” she explained. – The Narrator
