KUCHING: A video showing individuals who are believed to be members of the Sarawak for Sarawakians (S4S) movement refusing to stand up for the national anthem went viral yesterday.

The post captured the attention of netizens who took the S4S members to task over their show of disrespect.

It was reported that the incident occurred last Friday at a hotel during a fundraising dinner for Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Baru (PBDSB).

Online news portal Free Malaysia Today (FMT) revealed that a spokesperson for the group reached out and said that the group’s reluctance to stand in respect of the anthem is a form of ‘silent protest’ towards Putrajaya.

The spokesperson told FMT that the group was disgruntled over the federal government’s position on returning the state’s 20 percent oil and gas revenue.

He cited that they were not particularly happy with Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad statement that the return of the state’s right is “not really workable”.

Earlier today, State Deputy Police Commissioner SAC Datuk Dev Kumar revealed that a report to the police was made on the incident and that the individuals will be summoned to obtain their statements. – The Narrator
