KUCHING: Serembu assemblyman and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) deputy youth chief Miro Simuh has been elected as the new youth chief.
He succeeds Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu, who was youth chief since the party’s last Triennial General Meeting (TGM) in 2018.
His deputies will be Allan Siden Gramong (Pesaka wing) and Lukanisman Awang Sauni (Bumiputera wing).
In his first interview, Miro said he wants the party to be more inclusive and be open to new ideas and suggestions.
“That is the inclusivity that we should have in this party. Secondly, we are facing the 15th General Election (GE15) and I feel that the Youth wing has a huge responsibility in preparing for this.
“This is also in facing the current tumultuous state of politics, ensuring that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), will, once again win by a landslide,” he said.
He was speaking to the press when met at the party’s TGM yesterday (June 17) at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).
Miro added that PBB is a platform that develops leaders for the next generation and that to date, it has succeeded in doing so, being represented by a total of nine elected representatives in the state assembly.
“We feel that this is an important benchmark and we believe, with the support that we have in this new line-up, we can do it,” he said.
Asked on his take on being the first Bidayuh to be PBB youth chief, he said the responsibility comes first and foremost.
“I thank the party leaders for choosing me as the new youth chief. With PBB being the backbone to GPS, this is a heavy responsibility.
“There are more important things on being the first Bidayuh to hold the post, we must focus on maintaining PBB’s strength,” he said. – Think Sarawak
