KUCHING: Sarawak’s largest political party, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) has amended its party constitution, paving the way for the setting up of a new wing.
The new wing will accommodate new members, aged between 18 to 28 years old with the aim of attracting the age group to back the state government’s backbone party.
PBB president and Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said with the amended constitution, it provides a platform for the youth to be involved in politics.
“This Triennial General Meeting (TGM) is crucial for PBB as in this meeting, we have amended our party constitution. We will now accept members aged 18 to 28 years old in the new wing.
“This is also a platform for us to train new leaders from the age of 18 and upwards,” he told reporters today (June 19).
Earlier he delivered a winding up speech to some 2,400 delegates to conclude the three-day PBB TGM at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).
Abang Johari said the new wing seeks to give ample exposure to youth on politics and allow them to witness development being implemented from time to time.
“This will give them experience and prepare them once they are over 28 where they already have the necessary political background, thus transitioning to the Youth or the Women wing,” he said.
The premier said this would then allow the youths to contribute to building the society, nation and state.
“It is not easy for one to lead unless they have the necessary experience. This is a systematic form of training for the youths, ensuring a better future for Sarawak,” he said.
