KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) is moving up in the world, garnering recognition from other countries across continents.
Its president Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said Sarawak has been known for its green energy prowess.
“PBB has made inroads in emphasising on carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS). We are in line with the world.
“PBB is no longer a kampung party. It is taking a step ahead and is in sync with the developments occurring around the world,” he said.
He said this when speaking at the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Triennial General Meeting (TGM) today (June 18).
Abang Johari said he has received invitations to speak in forums held overseas to share the development that is occurring in Sarawak.
“It was the Sarawak Premier that took the world stage to deliver an address. I don’t wish to boast, but the fact of the matter is, the world has recognised the potential of Sarawak in Malaysia,” he said.
The premier said there are now a lot of investors seeking to invest in the state. He said recently Germans, Koreans and Belgians have visited the state to discuss on energy matters.
“The Koreans were also interested in CCUS, so I said ‘why not, we will study the matter’.
“This could become another income source for Sarawak and it could be more than the amount generated from State Sales Tax (SST),” he said.
Abang Johari said it is due to the expected revenue that the Sarawak government mooted the setting up of the sovereign wealth fund.
“The sovereign fund is based on our surplus – we follow the Norway model which their fund is valued at USD1.3 trillion after setting it up in 1976. It grew to USD1.4 trillion last year.
“If Norway can, Sarawak can too. We find ways to add value to our resources and develop the state,” he said.
