KUCHING: Legal action may be the only way to go if negotiations with Putrajaya is in tatters.

The Sarawak government ought to take the federal governement to task if promises remain unfulfilled asserts Batang Sadong MP Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.

“What are we expecting after Oct 31 if they (Putrajaya) are not doing anything? I think Sarawak should seriously think of legal action.

“We have been waiting for a long time. When you promised us, and Sarawak says ‘I give you until Oct 31’ but what’s next? So next is, just take court action,” she told pressmen when interviewed at a hotel here yesterday.

She pointed out federal grants to Sarawak should be reviewed every five years as stipulated under Article 112D of the Federal Constitution.

“I’ve been talking about the same thing all the time, the grants need to be reviewed as enshrined under the Federal Constitution.

“If you do not comply with it (Federal Constitution), you are in breach of it,” she stressed.

Nancy lamented views that Sarawak’s coffers are flush whenever the state requests for development funds from Putrajaya.

“How can you penalise us for our financial prudence? If we manage our money well, you should not penalise us. We did not spend our money any how we like,” she exhorted.
