KUCHING: The land and sea borders of neighbour country Brunei will be fully reopened on Aug 1.

This was announced yesterday (June 9) by its COVID-19 Steering Committee through a statement uploaded on its Prime Minister’s Office website.

“This is subject to the current COVID-19 situation in the country and regionally, as well as the operational readiness of control posts.

“Therefore, non-essential travel via land and sea is still not permitted until July 31,” it said.

Meanwhile, the committee also said said cross-border travel for essential purposes is permitted starting Wednesday (June 15).

“This includes for the purpose of work and school – and is also extended to commute travels for the aforementioned purposes; transit travel; and local and foreign-registered transport operators for the purpose of essential import and export supply deliveries”.

It said applications for essential travel needs is to be submitted to the Prime Minister’s Office via website www.pmo.gov.bn/travelportal.  “However, COVID-19 vaccination status is not required for essential travels”.
