KUCHING: Despite public pressure over the implementation of Village Community Management Councils (MPKK), the directive is now set in stone

State Pakatan Harapan chairman Chong Chieng Jen revealed that appointments will be made as early as November.

“By November, appointments will be made and latest will be by January,” he told journalists at the DAP headquarters here today.

Chong told the press that appointments will be done on the advice of Pakatan Harapan Sarawak.

“After the selection process, we will submit the names of candidates, one MPKK will consist of a chairman, a secretary and eleven members.

Chong pointed out that such move was due to initiatives by the federal government to uplift people in the state being being scuppered by the GPS state government.

“Village heads are barred from attending programmes by the federal government by the state government,” he asserted.

The deputy minister viewed that the federal government is afforded a better and faster way to channel information through MPKK.

“This is not to replace Ketua Kaum or Tuai Rumah as they have their own specific functions, but instead help the federal government reach out and help village folks,” he said. – The Narrator
